The Virtual Immersive Biometry-enabled Environment (VIBE) Lab is at URI is a state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratory for developing new methods and techniques of immersive virtual environments, and studies the uses and effectiveness of this technology in domains such as task-training and physical therapy. Virtual Immersive Environments have been seen for over two decades as a technology with vast potential for education, telepresence, sports, exercise, etc. This potential has remained mostly unfulfilled because the equipment suffered from severe flaws, and was either prohibitively expensive or offered an insufficient quality of display to enable true immersion.
